Now in theaters, Kendricks’ New Film ‘Show Me the Father’ Focuses on ‘The Fundamental Fundamental Question’ of Fatherhood

Filmmakers Alex and Stephen Kendrick hope their latest release, “Show Me the Father,” will inspire fathers to become the men God called them to be, and audiences are responding to this message.

“Show Me the Father” weaves inspiring stories about earthly fathers with a biblical message about the fatherhood of God. It includes interviews with Texas pastor Tony Evans, Jim Daly of Focus on the Family, and former NFL coach and player Sherman Smith, among others.

Stephen Kendrick calls parenthood a “foundational, fundamental issue” that impacts the church and society as a whole – for better or for worse.

“Earthly Fatherhood is actually an introduction to God’s Fatherhood,” he told TAB Media. “And generally, we are wrong, and the earthly fathers do not really understand their roles and responsibilities.”

Inspiring stories

“Show Me the Father” includes inspirational stories from fathers, as well as stories of how God saved children from dangerous situations.

A fan of documentaries, Kendrick said that a good documentary can communicate a huge amount of information in a short period of time. He called a documentary on fatherhood a “dream project.”

“People don’t need to think of this as just a boring talking heads documentary,” he said. “We tried to make it cinematic in the way we unfold the stories. And there are several twists and turns that occur as the movie unfolds.

It received rave reviews from those who screened it, he said. Some viewers, he said, cry after the credits roll. He calls it an “emotional roller coaster”. It’s a documentary for the whole family, including mothers and daughters, he said.

“One of my daughters made a decision for Christ right after watching a rough cut of this movie,” he said. “We didn’t know how much this was going to affect [her]. “

Next month, the Kendricks will release “Courageous Legacy,” a re-release of the 2011 hit movie “Courageous” with new footage and an updated ending. (Learn more about the two films here.)

The Kendricks hope both films will have an impact on Men for Christ.

“We are grateful and thrilled to see what the Lord is doing with these,” said Alex Kendrick.
