Actress Surveen Chawla has revealed that she has had to deal with the casting of the South Indian film industry “a lot”. In a new interview, Surveen explained that she was humiliated during her first cinematic encounter in Mumbai. She was warned that she would not get any roles because she weighed 56 kilos.
Surveen Chawla made her television debut with Kahin To Hoga (2003) and subsequently featured in Kasautii Zindagii Kay (2004) and Kaajjal (2006). She appeared on the reality TV show Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena (2008), hosted by Comedy Circus Ke SuperStars. Surveen has also appeared in several films.
In an interview with RJ Siddharth Kannan, she was asked if she had to face a comment where she was ashamed of her weight and told her it wouldn’t get roles. Surveen replied, “Yeah, that was actually my first cinema reunion in Bombay that I went for. So I was doing TV, and then I went to that first reunion. You know, it’s their job to. sort of put you in the space where you wonder And it happens to most women too where their appearance is questioned, their weight is questioned, what is your waistline is in question, what is your chest measurement is in question. “
She added, “It’s just crazy. What are the parameters for being here? What are they? It was a pretty tough time … It was there, but I don’t think it is. right parameters that define you or make you believe or disbelieve where you want to be or where you are at. “
Surveen made her film debut with the film Kannada Paramesha Panwala. She is known for her roles in Hate Story 2 (2014), Ugly (2013) and Parched (2015). In 2018, she was seen in the web series Haq Se and in Sacred Games as well.
She is slated to star with actor R Madhavan in the Decoupled series, which is slated for release on Netflix on December 17. Directed by Hardik Mehta, Decoupled is the story of a estranged couple (tried by R Madhavan and Surveen) navigating their marriage.
